Devlog week 05 - Polish and UI
Week 05 - Polish and UI
During this week progress, some updates have been made. First and foremost, background music and sound effect were added to the game as below:
- background music for opening screen (including how to play and player mode screen)
- sound effect for UI button click
- background music for main scene
- sound effect for being hit and getting hurt
- sound effect for mocking
- background music for end scene
These music and sound effect were chosen based on the style of the game and art, then placed to enhance the experience for gamers during gameplay.
A 1P mode was added as an update, since previously the game was only accommodating for 2P which means if only 1 person playing the game, they need to play for both side of characters. And of course, by having options of player mode mean there is an additional screen where gamers can choose which mode they want to play.
Additional player mode option and when 2 Players mode being chosen.
When 1 Player mode chosen, AI will be the Roo and gamer will only play as Pooch.
Obviously, what comes with 1P mode is AI will take role as player. Therefore, when 1P mode is chosen, AI will play as Roo and gamer will play as Pooch. I've designed to make the AI quite "smart" meaning the AI throw will be quite accurate to add fun and competitiveness to the game.
Another thing being polished in this week was the red colour title and instruction, where it is being added black outline to help people with colour blindness to read it easier (As shown on GIF images above).
And last but not least was polishing the game by fixing bug from previous feedback where the power bar was being triggered whenever mouse button was clicked (even though it would not trigger for the weapon to be launched).
Power bar triggered every time the mouse clicked and held.
After being fixed, power bar no longer triggered unless left-click mouse being held inside the character's body.
Feedback:
- 1 Player mode, so gamer can just play only one character (not hovering mouse between both characters) and adding challenge to the game (since playing both side by ourselves means we can control who will win).
- It was hard to read the instruction for someone who has colourblind conditions, and by adding shadow or outline will help.
- Projection line for the throwing.
- Power-ups to add challenge to the game.
The first two points of feedback have been responded during this week progress. For projection line and power-ups will be my homework for next week progress, hopefully I will success to make improvement to respond for those feedback since they are great feedback. Wish me luck and see you next week!
